Business bank accounts & payments

Prepare for account opening and keep control of your business money.

Ask for the right account

Tell the bank your legal structure, business activity and expected payments. Ask for its current written account-opening checklist under SBP’s customer-onboarding framework. Requirements vary by customer and account type; this preparation list is not a guarantee of approval.

  • Sole proprietor: ask about identity verification, proof of business/activity, a proprietorship declaration and tax registration where applicable.
  • Partnership or LLP: ask about the deed/agreement, registration evidence, partners’ identities and authority to operate the account.
  • Company: ask about incorporation documents, authorised signatories, the required resolution and ownership information.

Ask the bank how to handle a pending NTN if an account certificate is needed for FBR registration. Get the correct sequence for your circumstances in writing.

Before you agree

  1. Compare account fees, minimum balance conditions, transaction limits and digital access.
  2. Confirm whether the account supports business receipts, merchant payments and any overseas payments you expect.
  3. For jointly owned businesses, agree who can approve payments and how access changes when a partner leaves.
  4. Keep business records separate from household spending. Reconcile statements with invoices.

Ask about accessible branches, communication support or suitable digital banking if you have a disability. Keep your own access credentials; do not share PINs or one-time passwords with agents or customers.

Account refused, payment missing or fraud suspected?

Ask for a written explanation or complaint reference from the bank. For unauthorised transactions, contact the bank immediately through its official channel. SBP’s Sunwai portal helps route complaints to the bank/MFB/DFI first, then Banking Mohtasib Pakistan or SBP where the rules allow. The correct escalation depends on the institution and complaint.
